THOMAS VORCE I believe that the foundations of photography were laid down in black and white and the mastery of this technique is essential to the way we select and compose that which is worthy of distinction. I have selected shadows as a theme because they exist with an infinite variety and work to define the hours of the day as well as the objects they profile. When your eyes are opened to shadows, even common realities take on another dimension and it is this ‘other dimension’ that I wish to celebrate in my images. I worked in advertising and film in London and New York City where I learned the advantages of the cutting room and the role skill plays in the expectation of a finished product. I also have an extensive background in the darkroom so when I discovered Photoshop I was ready to embrace the possibilities. I have lived in New Mexico for nearly 30 years and I believe the light here is like no other place in the world.

Magic seems to select those who are prepared and I felt the excitement of a life time quest in putting this body of work together. Often the best images would come when I least expected them like visual poems, driven by a higher syntax.
