TO A WIZARD

Sing Wizard

The chant of the North Star.

Glaze the Milky Way

With violets and velvet

If you can.

Sing Wizard

For those

Whose keen eyes

Are fixed on sunsets

That melt in evening

To each other

Like a fawn’s dropped head

In water.

Oh star jeweler

No caskets you make

And what time

You spend at the wheel.

Moment maker,

I see you hiding

Beyond comprehension,

Galactic gladiator

And refiner of twinkle,

Lest we leave the world

      Without an art.
